If we limited 3 pairs of shoes for each one of us, our family of 5 would end up with 15 pairs of shoes. Come on, how is it possible to have ONLY three pairs of shoes per person?! Our house doesn’t have a foyer. It leads directly to our living room when opening the door. The shoes storage has always been a problem for us.
A few years ago we came up with the solution for our own, and we put en & el’s tiny baby shoes on the caster trays underneath the bench.
The kids are growing up, so are their feet. Not only the length of the shoes are growing but also the numbers of pairs! I turned around and looked for a system to organize their shoes; a system that is self-motivated for the little ones to put the shoes away and put them on whenever we’re ready to go.
There are tons of shoe cabinets in the market but it’s rare to find one with three sections. I found this IKEA BRIMNES TV unit a perfect fit! It’s the perfect length (just one inch wider) to our wall and there are open shelves for storing their gadgets like shin guards, helmets, hats, and a basket full of socks! We also put up a long piece of rack with knobs (IKEA LURT/GUBBARP x 3) for the kids to hang their backpacks and jackets.
We left out their handles and switched to this silver ones for the look. Somehow the space in between the screws are coincidentally the same!
It looks like a mini mudroom in the house. It looks neat and functional. I'm confident that it can last long even when they are teen. We're loving it!
